I am a fan because Pink firstly because she actually writes her songs and secondly sing about meaningful and contraversial topics addressing society today.
Pink is an amazing outspoken voice in a corporate game. She questions the aspects of society that the 'popular' culture of music should address, but are seemingly afraid due to corprate culture and cultural politics.
Pink is an 'underground' and politicized voice that speaks openly in a mediated governed world of popular music. There are too many artists clogging up the 'top 40' music area with mindless lyrics and unsubstantial melodies. Pink brings meaning back to the popular and corporate music industry by influencing it through true punk ethics and ideologies. She questions authority, and expresses rights and views of those in 'minority' groups. She does this in a 'popular' way allowing these views to be openly discussed and brings awareness of them into popular society.
I am not for the populization of punk and its ethos, although i respect Pink imensly for her openess and expression of aspects of animal rights, questioning autority and your government, gay rights, questioning of 'normal' society, and breaking down stereotypes. These issues many of which are discussed and sung about on underground true punk scenes.
Secondly I am a fan of Pink as she is an actual musician and is talented and able to write and develop her own songs.
In the present outlook of the music industry there are too many incapable musicans who purley have 'the look' and a vague ability to sing and perform. This view encourages the capitalistic moralites of the corporate companies involed in the industry to:
a) exploit these performers from an early age and dictact and mould them to purley satify a preconcived sellable image to benafit the company through the most finaces they can get.
b) It removes the actuall meaning from music as the songs are written by different individuals who withhold a meaning for the songs and lyrics and the song is then performed with less authenticity.
c) As the songs are evaluated by members deeply associated with the corporations this censors the true meaning and issues that should be openly discussed within tracks in the popular music scene.
d) It also helps to promote the stereotype see in the music business of the female gender as sex items. As the companies do up and mould female artists to purley sell from a sex point of view, this encourages the exact image discussed on 'stupid girls' and seen in many of Pink's tracks discussing the stereotypical female image that society pushes for today.
I am a fan of Pink as she attempts to break down the coroprate barriers within popular music, and opens up for discussion, important social issues that are currently overlooked. She promotes a sense of authenticity to her music as it is written at least in part by her. She also promotes an alternative female image, breaking down stereotypes, which is an aspect of society that needs to forgotten, as there is much more diversity in the world that the popular culture seemily ignors as it questions tradition and corporate values.
hi-five for peaches and pink.
