Today's Singalong

Today's Singalong

“Today’s Singalong” was a tradition I started on September 1st 2009. The idea was – and still is - to entertain the very frequent PP users in the infamous “I think we should break a record thread” somewhere else in this forum with a new song (normally not by Pink) every day. The songs are usually located on YouTube (or similar video tube websites), and quite often I add or link to the song lyrics as well. I try to provide a little background information to each song I post.
I often post music I already know, but I also try to post all kinds of musical genres and investigate new territories as well. “Today’s Singalong” is supposed to be entertaining as well as unpredictable. And one final thing: I do take requests! Eye-wink

Mr. R. Gibb passed away a few days ago at the age of 63. Let's pay a little tribute to the late hitmaker of the family business called The Bee Gees and also for a whole lot of other artists - including himself as a solo artist.
.
Bee Gees - You Win Again (1987)
Extended version
.
Bee Gees - This Is Where I Came In (2003)
.
And finally a song that the Bee Gees didn't write themselves. It was written back in 1960 for the Everly Brothers ... but even back then the Bee Gees were performing(!) ... But it was Nazareth who really immortalized this song. Most people only remember their (or Roy Orbison's) version. Eye-wink
.
Robin Gibb - Love Hurts (Live 2003)
.
And now for something completely different...
Vamp's 2nd biggest hit, I think.
.
Transvision Vamp (1989)
.
Zep's 1973 album "Houses of the Holy" contained a great number of 'overlooked' songs. This one is a short one - almost a ballad in the traditional sense - even with a country'ish slide guitar. Smiling
.
Led Zeppelin - Tangerine (1973)
.
Gossip's frontwoman Beth Ditto seems to have made som people angry because she doesn't mind exposing herself despite her overweight figure. I wonder why so many people in the world's fattest nation feel the need to rant over this talented performer? Puzzled
.
Gossip - Move In The Right Direction (2012)
.
And finally - a request (more or less) Smiling
This might not be the most solemn and emotional song in Pink's catalogue, but it has never been on the Singalong before...
.
Pink - It's All Your Fault (Live in Oz 2010)
.
Happy weekend, everyone. Smiling

(No offensive text in this signature field from now on)

'tis Saturday, and it has been a whole month since I posted the latest Singalong, so here's a big one to make up for some of the immense sense of loss and emptiness you must've felt. Sticking out tongue
.
Donna Summer (1948-2012) died a couple of days ago.
Let's celebrate her with this 1977 live recording - obviously not with the original live audio, but a great video nonetheless - if you're into electronic disco. Giorgio Moroder and Paolo Bellotte wrote this trance-like piece that took disco to 'strange new places'... Sticking out tongue
.
Donna Summer - I Feel Love ('Live' 1977 HQ sound)
.
Like other famous American disco divas, Donna Summer had a religious background, which kinda contradicted the highly erotic and 'bodily' music they recorded. Traditional religious hostility towards the very same gay people, who more than anyone else have kept disco alive and celebrated women like Gloria Gaynor and Donna Summer as 'divas' didn't make things less complicated to these ladies. Eye-wink
.
We've had The Black Keys on the Singalong once before, but here's another little gem that might get stuck on your mind.
.
The Black Keys - Little Black Submarines
.
I just got a 'KZ' haircut, so I'm not the target audience for this song, I guess. Smiling
.
Black Mountain - The Hair Song
.
And here's a REQUEST from Down Under...
A young Rolf Harris (look him up lol) dragging The Beatles through one of his daggy Australian singalongs sometime in the early 1960s... From a live radio broadcast. Laughing out loud
.
Rolf Harris & The Beatles - Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport
.
Another Australian tune - somewhat newer than Rolf Harris' big hit and more in the vein of Coldplay with a hint of Depêche Mode Eye-wink . PD requested this one. Wikipedia says they're from East Fremantle - a Perth suburb.
.
Eskimo Joe - Black Fingernails, Red Wine
.
And now another - almost new song (notice the rhythm which is similar to "I Feel Love") by a band you probably didn't know still existed: Shakespears Sister. The soprano Marcella Detroit left the band in the late 1990s, but Siobhan Fahey went on, and this ain't bad...
.
Shakespears Sister - It's A Trip (2010)
.
And now a request by our dear 'lost' friend, El Jay, from Hartlepool UK... The latest video by her sexiness, Ms. Cheryl Cole. Smiling
.
Cheryl Cole - Call My Name (2012)
Alternate version
.
We're not done with the soft pop yet. Here's Donna Lewis' only hit from 1996. You won't recognise it until you hear the chorus after 1½ minute. Laughing out loud
.
Donna Lewis - I Love You Always Forever (1996)
.
And finally another 1996 hit: A reprise... Pulp's hit "Common People" Cool
.
Pulp - Common People (1996)
.
And remember this: The Singalong never dies! Cool Smiling

Today's Singalong is dedicated to Steve Marriott - one of the most gifted rock vocalists in rock history.
.
Small Faces - I'm Only Dreaming (1967)
.
Humble Pie - Black Coffee (Live 1973)
.
Peter Frampton on guitar here...
.
Humble Pie - I Wonder (1972)
.
And a pure love ballad ...
.
Humble Pie - You're So Good For Me (1972)
.
And finally a solo work. Steve remained active throughout his career despite alcohol abuse, and he actually played his last concert (in good shape) only two months before he died in a fire at his house on April 20th 1991 caused by a cigarette and a drunk Steve. Shocked Eye-wink
.
Humble Pie - Stay With Me
.
Enjoy your week, ladies and gentlemen. Smiling

Despite har cool surface, Pink has always been good at 'melancholy blues'. This is a classic from the Try This era. She has only performed it live a few times, but these have crappy sound quality, so I picked the studio version for the Singalong...
.
Pink - Save My Life (2003)
.
But Freddie knew how to make it sound really saucy and classy (and more mature, obviously). Sticking out tongue
.
Queen - My Melancholy Blues (1977)
.
But George Michael is of course a true master of this discipline. Yet another hit (and an original music video) from his grandiose and impressive solo debut, "Faith" from 1987... I'm sure some of you can't stand this... Elton John could have sung this! Laughing out loud
.
George Michael - Kissing A Fool (1987)
.
Well. I've had enough of melancholy, so here's a truly great song by the late Solomon Burke, who had his finest hour in the early 1960s. He was overshadowed by the legendary Sam Cooke, but from a vocal perspective he was just as impressive.
.
Solomon Burke - Cry To Me (1963)
.
And now a song from down under: Real Life is (was?) a new wave band from Melbourne. This was their breakthrough hit... More pop than 'classic' new wave if you ask me. Eye-wink
.
Real Life - Send Me An Angel (1983)
.
There are also a bunch of Germans in here, and I'm sure they all love Alphaville. No video for this one, sorry. Smiling
.
Alphaville - Lies (1984)
.
Sorry, but I'm only posting Singalongs randomly these days. Sticking out tongue

(No offensive text in this signature field from now on)

And here we go again with another Singalong...
Let's make it as camp as possible from the start... Sticking out tongue
"Apache" is an instrumental written by Jerry Lordan. It has been recorded by many people, but the first released version was recorded by British group The Shadows in June 1960.
In 1977, The Tommy Seebach Band recorded a disco-styled version and filmed an accompanying music video of "Apache". Set on a rocky hillside, it featured scantily-clad dancers adoring a grinning keyboard player. This version was successful in Europe and later became an Internet meme. Laughing out loud
.
Tommy Seebach Band - Apache (1977)
.
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark had their major breakthrough with this balled named after the infamous bomber plane that dropped the nuclear bombs over Hiroshima in 1945.
.
OMD - Enola Gay (1980)
.
And now for something very 'Nordic'...
Eivør Pálsdóttir (pronounced [ˈaivœɹ ˈpɔlsˌdœʰtəɹ]; b. 1983 in Syðrugøta, Faroe Islands) is a Faroese singer/songwriter with a distinct voice and a wide range of interests in many kinds of music from rock, jazz, folk, pop, to European classical music.
.
Eivør - Hounds of Love (2010)
.
David Grellier (b. 1979 in Nantes, France) is a French electronica musician and founder of the musical projects College (2005) and Valerie (2007). Under the stage name Mitch Silver, he is also a member of the electroclash band Sexy Sushi, active since 2004.
.
College featuring Electric Youth - A Real Hero ("Drive" soundtrack, 2011)
.
Happy Frigay, everyone. Smiling

(No offensive text in this signature field from now on)

Fancy ( Manfred Alois Perilano, b. 1946) is a German Eurodance and Euro Disco (a.k.a. italo disco) artist who was popular in the mid to late 1980s. Fancy, who studies astrology and esoterica, once claimed in an interview, "I am a moon child"... Enjoy this. The year is 1985 - I think. Sticking out tongue
.
Fancy - Bolero
.
You already know the next song very well...
.
Plastic Bertrand - Ca Plane Pour Moi (1978)
.

.
The next one is one of Scotty's recommendations... Smiling
Nashville p**** is an American hard rock band from Atlanta, Georgia. Their musical style mixes boogie rock, Southern metal and psychobilly. Much of the band's lyrical themes mostly revolve around sex, drugs, drinking, fighting, and rock 'n' roll.
.
Nashville Pussy - Pussy Time (Live)
.
The Cure hasn't been on the Singalong more than once or twice before, so let's have one of their lengthier songs to make up for their absence... Take it away, Robbie - king of the Emos! Laughing out loud
.
The Cure - Pictures of You
.
Someone has said that Bryan Ferry mainly became famous for singing other people's songs, but this 1985 hit was actually his very own - and first as a solo artist - hit.
.
Bryan Ferry - Slave To Love (1985)
.
I never knew that Patrick Sawyze had had a singing career. I'm not saying that this is bad - but it's not that great either Laughing out loud ... I s'pose it was made at the peak of his career during the time of "Dirty Dancing", "Roadhouse" and "Ghost"... judging from his hair length. Eye-wink
.
Patrick Swayze - She's Like The Wind
.
Finally the first vocal version of Henry Mancini's famous Peter Gunn theme... Later made famous by The Blues Brothers and a whole lot of other films.
.
Sarah Vaughan - Peter Gunn
.
Smiling That's all for now.

(No offensive text in this signature field from now on)

Laughing out loud ... Pussy Time ... I guess this is what 'biker culture' has been all about since the days of "Easy Rider"... Sticking out tongue
.
Today's (or rather: This week's) Singalong Eye-wink contains another big batch of songs that deserves to be remembered (or forgotten)...
.
Shakespears Sister was a highly talented duo during the early 1990s consisting of Siobhan Fahey and American soprano Marcella Detroit. They are most famous for their massive 1992 hit "Stay", but they actually recorded a good deal of brilliant ballads. Here's one...
.
Shakespears Sister - Hello (Turn Your Radio On)
.
Joy Division is perhaps the most celebrated post punk band thanks to the tragically short life of their highly respected lead singer, Ian Curtis, who comitted suicide due to mental illness in 1980.
.
Joy Division - Closer (unofficial video)
.
Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft or D.A.F. is an influential German electropunk/NDW band from Düsseldorf, formed in 1978. Lyrically D.A.F.'s songs have ranged from sardonic reflections on ideology and political violence, to journeys into a very physical, even brutal, sexuality, sometimes related from a child's point of view.
.
DAF - Der Räuber und der Prinz (1982)
.
Kim Carnes (b. 1945 in Hollywood, California) is an American singer-songwriter. She is a two-time Grammy Award winner noted for her distinctive raspy vocal style. Some people have called her "The Female Rod Stewart" due to her raspy voice. Laughing out loud
.
Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes (1981)
.
Actress Bette Davis admitted to being a fan of the song and approached Carnes and the songwriters to thank them. Davis wrote to Carnes after the song was released saying she loved the song. Carnes and Davis struck up a special friendship, with the singer visiting her at her home several times until her 1989 death. Carnes performed the song live for Davis at a tribute to the legendary actress held just before her death.
.
And now for something completely different: Princess Stéphanie Grimaldi of Monaco. The princess' first album from 1986 was surprisingly succesful, and it still ranks as one of the best selling albums in France(!) She recorded a "In The Closet" with Michael Jackson in 1992, she ended her singing career. Smiling
.
Stéphanie - Dance With Me (1987)
.
And finally: A music video that looks like the start of a porno film... From the early days of aerobics gyms and the fashion that came with it in the early 1980s. Laughing out loud
.
Vanessa - Upside Down (1982)
.
Errr... A late "Happy Frigay, everyone". Smiling

(No offensive text in this signature field from now on)

Not much going on here lately! Here is a good live one: Nashville p**** - p**** Time

http://youtu.be/CSJvZ8HvBNs

GaGa

Not much action here lately

Here is a good one form Nashville p**** live in Paris -

You give drugs a bad name

GaGa

So quiet in here...
.
Today's Singalong has a quite new song on the menu. The best new sound I have heard in years! Unfortunately Gotye haven't had any more hits. Eye-wink
.
Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know (2011)
.
Kimbra from the video has done some solo work too...
.
Kimbra - Settle Down (2010)
.
OK. That's enough 'indie' for today. Here's good old Bob with a 1970 version of his 1966 classic. These days Bob doesn't repeat himself - at least not deliberately! Laughing out loud
.
Bob Dylan (w. George Harrison?) - Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues (1970)
.
The last one today probably doesn't need any further comments...
.
Whitney Houston - Didn't We Almost Have It All (Live 1987)
.
I'll see if I can pull myself together more often and post something more often... even though it's so quiet in here right now. Eye-wink

(No offensive text in this signature field from now on)

It's Saturday, and there's snow and sun outside. It's such a beautiful view. Smiling
.
Robin 'BeeGee' Gibb ain't dying yet, so let's celebrate that with one of his most falsetto-riddled hits from the 1980s...
.
Robin Gibb - Juliet (1982)
.
And here's a true 'one hit wonder': Aneka with "Japanese Boy"! Laughing out loud
.
Aneka - Japanese Boy (1985)
.
Yazoo only released two albums, but the duo consisted of pure musical talent - notably Vince Clarke (ex. Depêche Mode) who went on to form ERASURE. Still, the Yazoo years remain very special to me. Both of their albums are great.
.
Yazoo - Don't Go (1982)
.
Enya in one of her earliest solo hits released for a TV production about... well... the Celts. Laughing out loud
.
Enya - The Celts (1987)
.
The last song today might be the song you like the most: Jeff Buckley with one of the most famous cover versions of the classic John cale song "Hallelujah"... Jeff drowned in a river in 1997.
.
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (1994)
.
Let's keep this thread alive - as long as they let us. Eye-wink

(No offensive text in this signature field from now on)

Thanks once agian Scotty. Smiling
It's Frigay for another hour ... so I'm in such a hurry. Let's start with an instrumental by a guitar legend who seems to go very well to most Tarantino movies. Cool
.
Link Wray - Switchblade
.
Einstürzende Neubauten roughly translates to 'collapsing new structures'. This German band was founded in 1980 and they have remained on top of most hipsters', punk rock, new wave, and basically allsorts of experimental and alternative music fans' lists of 'most important bands'...
.
Einstürzende Neubauten - Sabrina (Black Swan soundtrack)
.
And finally: The RUNAWAYS as requested by Punchy. No artsy rock here. Just pure punk rock anno 1977... With some modern film footage with Dakota Fanning, since there isn't an official 1977 music video for this one. Sticking out tongue
.
The Runaways - Cherry Bomb (1977)
.
And I heard that there was a little girl in here who didn't know ERASURE either.....?!! Shocked Shocked Shocked ... Well. Crank up your amplifier and STOP not knowing them! Laughing out loud
.
Erasure - Stop! (1987)
.
... And if you're STILL not sure what kind of music that made them one of the most succesful pop bands in the UK since The Beatles... Erasure's finest years were 1985-1995.
.
Erasure - A Little Respect (1988)
.
And let's finish this Frigay night with something bizarre: A user made 'music video' for Lars von Trier's bleak horror tale "Antichrist"! The idea is kinda sick, because I honestly think he had a major depression when he recorded this film, and I don't even think I like the film - but parts of the imagery is outstanding.
.
Desireless - Qui Sommes Nous? ("Who Are We?")
.
OK. It can't end like this, so ...
.
Michael Jackson - Dirty Diana (Live - somewhat lol)
.
Happy Frigay, everyone. Smiling

(No offensive text in this signature field from now on)

Ooh - Love "She Talks to Angels"

are not many hair band posts here but in a similar vain want to share "Fly High Michelle" by Enuff Znuff

http://youtu.be/x-greVjUEdc

GaGa

It's extremely well made. No short cuts, and boring parts, but I still prefer the 'trippy' imagery of "Mysterious Ways". Eye-wink
.
OK. This song was supposed to have been posted on Frigay. It dates back to the 'days of the dinosaurs'... Or more precisely: 1993. I'm not sure if it was actually released on the "Jurassic Park" soundtrack, but it did get a LOT of airplay back then! Eye-wink
.
Was (Not Was) - Walk The Dinosaur (1993)
.
Gabber techno isn't exactly common event on the Singalong, so why not? Maybe not your cup of tea, but... Sticking out tongue
.
Johnny Violent - North Korea Goes Bang (1996)
.
Do you remember Pink's - obviously drunk - live club session with Steel Panther where she tried to sing "Sweet Child O Mine"... and then this one? Laughing out loud ... Typical 1980s metal ballad.
.
Skid Row - 18 And Life (original video)
.
We've never had The Black Crowes on the Singalong, so here goes (sorry about the sound quality).
.
Black Crowes - She Talks To Angels
.
... And let's put on a fully fledged pop ballad that makes all the girls sing... very loud! Sticking out tongue Laughing out loud
.
Mr. Big - To Be With You
.
I'm the one who wants to be with you - Deep inside I hope you feel it too... Smiling

(No offensive text in this signature field from now on)

Kaspin - Since you liked "She moves in Mysterious Ways" and its Frigay I thought this was a natural add on:

One by U2

http://youtu.be/ftjEcrrf7r0

(Personally I think this was their best video)

GaGa

I don't think I put this one up before but if I did this is still worth a double post:

My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult - Sex on Wheels

http://youtu.be/bdLyoCgDKFs

GaGa

That song might be my favourite U2 song and video. Just too damn cool. Thanks again, Scotty. Smiling Smiling Smiling
.
OK. There's only 30 minutes left of this Frigay, but here we go anyway... With the once famous and now infamous GARY GLITTER! Sticking out tongue
.
Gary Glitter - I Love You Love Me (1973)
.
Gary Glitter - I Am The Leader of the Gang (1973)
.
OK. Enough of Gary for tonight.
American Awolnation are back on the Singalong with this energetic, dramatic, cool, intense... song. I really like this band. They haven't made any crap so far in my opinion. Cool
.
Awolnation - Burn It Down (2010)
.
The Faces... I guess most people have forgot the name of Rod Stewart's first band. Here's a rare tune from 1971. Loads of slide guitar here. There's no video, I'm afraid. There is a live recording of it, but the sound was crap, so I picked the album version. Eye-wink
.
Faces - Around The Plynth (1971)
.
OK. One more. This ain't The Fine Young Cannibals' finest song... or is it? Puzzled
.
Fine Young Cannibals -Johnny Come Home
.
Happy Frigay, everyone. Smiling

Every woman is sexy when you see her throught the lense of this song:

U2 - Mysterious Ways:

GaGa

It has been a while since I posted my last Singalong, but here goes...
Jefferson Airplane was a 'proper psychedelic band'. In fact, this 1967 album was called "Psychedelic Pillow". Frontwoman Grace Slick (b. 1939) does a nice job on this one.
.
Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit (1967)
.
Let's fast forward 9 years. Sex Pistols was THE bad who made punk rock popular - and thereby also marked the beginning of the end of the punk era. In some places they still claim that "punk's not dead"... In Berlin, for instance. Eye-wink
.
Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK (Live 1976)
.
Anyone remember this one from the mid 1990s? Still used for sports documentaries and that sort of stuff... I just wonder why nobody ever filed a complained about the line ... from the the roof top shout it out 'baby I'm ready to go!' Laughing out loud
.
Republica - Ready To Go
.
Playback version by the 'fusion rock band' Manfred Mann's Erath Band. That sound was extremely succesful in the late 1980s and early 1980s. Cool
.
Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Blinded By The Light (TOTP 1976)
.
See ya later. Smiling

(No offensive text in this signature field from now on)

And of course Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd -

http://youtu.be/L6b0bKj6s2M

I was driving out in the boondocks and when this song came on the radio I was driving about 60 mph. By the time it was done I was driving around 100. What a great song.

Hey Kaspin -

.
Is there really someone in here who don't know the song "Free"? Shocked
... Well. Here ya go...
.
Pink - Free (2004?)
.
And now it's time for a little contest: Which Pink cover song is the best, and which is the most disastrous? Eye-wink
.
Shakin' Stevens - Trouble (Pink cover)
.
Shirley Bassey - Get This Party Started (Pink cover)
.
Travis Garland - Fuckin' Perfect
.
Perfect World - Just Like A Pill
.
Shay-an Nivillac - Just Like A Pill
.
And finally a 'real' Singalong song. This live duet with Sarah McLachlan and Pink was written in memoriam of the keyboard player from Smashing Pumpkins, who overdosed on heroine back in 1996.
.
Sarah McLachlan & Pink - Angel (live)
.
I'll be in Nottingham, England for the next couple of days, and they only have really expensive internet at the local inn there. I will post another Singalong again asap. Smiling

It's New Year's Eve, and here's the last Singalong of the year.
Let's start the show in style. Here's Divine! Sticking out tongue
.
Divine - Walk Like A Man (1985)
.
Jesus Christ Superstar is not a musical but a 'rock opera'. Here's Carl Anderson screaming his guts out as his character, Judas, has to die... Smiling
.
Carl Anderson - Judas' Death (1973)
.
Marc Bolan and T-Rex are back on the Singalong. No video this time. I wanted high sound quality here. A really cool T-Rex song. Eye-wink
.
T-Rex - Ride A White Swan
.
Here's a 37 minute concert from the Marquee Club in London in 1971. Sound is relatively good and so is the image quality, so feel free to use Freemake or whichever tool you prefer to 'make this clip your own'... Sticking out tongue
.
Rolling Stones - Live @ Marquee Club '71
.
Here's one of the girliest and earliest Pink songs. Groovy sound though, and very 'confident' lyrics - as always. Cool
.
Pink - Respect (2000)
.
Hang on. Here's Freddie's best live concert ever! Montréal, Canada, 1981. Loads of beer on the piano. You don't see musicians these days quench their thirst like this on stage anymore. Sticking out tongue
.
Queen - Somebody To Love (Live 1981)
.
Solomon Burke gets the honour of singing the final Singalong song in 2011...
.
Solomon Burke - Don't Give Up On Me

HAPPY NEW YEAR, SWEET, SWEET, BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! Smiling

There will be a New Year's Eve special Singalong tomorrow, but here's the 2nd last Singalong of 2011... and I have my doubts whether you're gonna like what you hear and see. It's scary, and it is also dismaying... But above all it's North Korea anno 2011 and 2012!
.
North Korean Military Parade @ Kim Jong Un's inauguration
.
... Ah. Well. It's Frigay, so let's get on with the 'real thing'! Sticking out tongue
.
Boy George - Karma Chameleon (1983)
.
Here's a more recent piece of pop music by one of the most hyped rock bands these days: Coldplay...
.
Coldplay - Paradise (2011)
.
"Paradise" was one of 2011's biggest hits... Only superceded by a song like THIS one... (RIP Clarence Clemons, former E Street Band member)
.
Lady Gaga - Edge of Glory (2011)
Lady Gaga - Edge of Glory (Live 2011, acoustic piano version)
.
New Year's Eve's Singalong will be louder than this, so let me just finish today's Singalong with another slow melancholic tune... I just wish Erasure were still like this! Sticking out tongue
.
Erasure - My Heart, So Blue (Live 1986)
.
Happy Frigay, everyone. Smiling

Back to the Goth era this is a cut from my all time favorite goth band "The Sisters of Mercy" It features Patricia Morrison, former bass player for the LA Punk Band "The Gun Club" (Who I am still in love with) despite the fact that she is married to Dave Vanion who is the lead singer for "The Damned".

Anyway, The Sisters of Mercy - Dominion:

Though Judas Iscariot has gone down in history as one of the most hated people to ever walk the face of the Earth the Gnostics claimed that he was in fact the one Apostle Jesus entrusted most to turn him in when the time came. This may be where the expression "The Kings Assasin" came from.

Whether any of that is true or not Carl Anderson's portrayal of Judas in the original score of Andrew Lloyd Webber "Jesus Christ Superstar" stole the show and cemented my opinion that he was one of the most powerful singers ever.

Carl Anderson - RIP

Glad you liked that one Kaspin. Here is a Christmas Ditty from Shane MacGowan and The Pogues called Fairytale of New York:

Michelle really loved this one and I guess it was to her credit that she got that Christmas still meant something to everyone, even when they were sitting in a cell somewhere.
Best to you and everyone here on PP!

Amazing contribution, Scotty. This is actually raw punk. I'm gonna pass this on to a very special friend... I'm pretty sure he already knows it though. Eye-wink

Aaaannnd here we go...

The 1960s wouldn't be the same without this simple, but well-written (and well sung) anthem. So many simple songs of the 1960s still lives on for one simple reason: They were made by people who weren't making music for the money, but because they really believed that their music made a difference in a time when an extraordinary large number of people actually belived that the world could and should become better. I am afraid that we have given up nowadays. We are back to the basic worrying about not getting fired, steady income, work ethics above other ethics, competing nation-states and mistrust. Puzzled

I posted the next song for no particular reason. Smiling

And finally - a special request by Netty - George Michael and his less talented companion having fun at the posh Swiss ski resort in Gstaad... But let's not forget the Christmas melancholy! Laughing out loud

Sort of think Pink should do a cover too. What do you think?

This old hit by Cyndi Lauper (the botox diva who sings blues these days and who makes sure that all her crew members get enough to eat when she's on tour) is still a sweet 1980s hymn - and the synths just make it even better. Light your lighters, if you still have one. Eye-wink

OK. Time for some archetypical 1970s disco music. Not a masterpiece though, I have to admit. Tina Charles (born Tina Hoskins in 1954, in London, England) is an English singer, who achieved success as a disco artist in the mid-to-late 1970s, selling 36 million records within a few years. Her most successful single was the #1 hit "I Love to Love (But My Baby Loves to Dance)" in 1976.

Jeff Beck should be on my Singalong as well. He can hardly be called 'underrated', but certainly 'underplayed' in terms of air play. Eye-wink

Yes, we are still here. Although I'm not posting songs every day for the time being, I have no plans on dropping the Singalong tradition, so please send me more requests. Sticking out tongue ... And also have a look at the "Today's Singalong" thread in the Pink - Music and Lyrics section in this forum.

Manfred Mann was a British beat, rhythm and blues and pop band (with a strong jazz foundation) of the 1960s, named after their South African keyboardist, Manfred Mann, who later led the successful 1970s group Manfred Mann's Earth Band.

"Quinn the Eskimo (Mighty Quinn)" is folk-rock song written by Bob Dylan in 1967. The song was first released in January 1968 as "Mighty Quinn" by the British band Manfred Mann and became a great success. It has been recorded by a number of performers, often under the "Mighty Quinn" title.
.
Manfred Mann - Mighty Quinn (Live 1968)
.
The subject of the song is the arrival of the mighty Quinn (an Eskimo), who changes despair into joy and chaos into rest, and attracts attention from the animals. The metaphorical lyrics have prompted suggestions that Quinn is a village elder. Bob Dylan himself has said that the title character refers to actor Anthony Quinn's role as an Eskimo in the 1960 movie The Savage Innocents. (Wikipedia)

.
Depeche Mode - It's No Good
.
"It's No Good" is a moodily rhythmic, perhaps even "sexy" song with a distinct lyrical hook in the chorus:
Don't say you want me
Don't say you need me
Don't say you love me
It's understood
.
Cool

OK then. Let's begin with Netty's request.
Osmo Ikonen is a Finn, so why not put on a song where he actually sings in his native language? Eye-wink ... I have no idea what he sings about, but I heard the words "Jesus Christus", so it might be something extra solemn and soulful... Laughing out loud

As you all know Pink had a go at this song on her live tour. It's difficult to recreate the sad, almost gloomy sound of Zep's original version. Pink can't copy Plant's most 'insane' vocals, but of course this might be related to age: Plant was only 21 or 22 when he sang this, while Pink was actually 10 years older(!) Eye-wink

Netty Couldn't access the Gangway link I posted on Thursday, so here's another link - this time with the original music video! It's kinda brutal... Plus there's a really corny 'commercial' in the middle of the video. Smiling Some might say it doesn't really fit the song, but here it is:

Gangway was a Danish band (now-defunct), sometimes classified as indie pop. They are also known for their strange and subtle lyrics that are often on the verge of surrealism.

"Say Say Say" is a pop song written and performed by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. "Say Say Say" received mixed reviews from music critics. The lyrics were named the worst of 1983 by The Buffalo News's Anthony Violanti. However, the extraordniray music video with Paul, Michael, Linda McCartney as well as LaToya Jackson probably made the song to stay in the charts longer. Two authors attempted to analyse the themes in the video saying that it marked "the distinction between Michael's roles as a Child and as a Man". (Wikipedia) Smiling

Recorded in 1980 Lipps Inc. "Funky Town" was responsible for calling attention to the Minneapolis Music scene:

http://youtu.be/5CImrIKNmBo

In the mid 1990's local band Greazy Meal did a cover version of this song that was really awsome. Don't know why they never hit it big as they were very energetic and their live shows sold out every time.
