Fairytale in... Is it Christmas already, Scotty? Thanks. I'll never grow tired of it. Smiling My father is very fond of Van Morrison, actually... I think I understand why.
.
It has been a while since the last Singalong, so I'd better get on with another one... A Europop one this time I think. We can't leave everything to Americans and Australians, can we? Eye-wink
.
'39 was written and performed by Brian May for Queen's out-of-this-world 1975 masterpiece "A Night At The Opera" ("A Day At The Races" was recorded at the same time btw!). The song sounds like it was written in memoriam of early European immigrants to America, but according to Brian May it is actually a piece of science fiction! Smiling
This performance is a wonderful display of Queen's vocal capabilities as a band. They actually had no less than 3 gifted singers! Eye-wink

Yazoo... The essence of early 1980s new wave melancholy (sorry, Robert Smith & The Cure!). I just can't enough(!) of their songs... Sticking out tongue

Clout was an all female pop rock band from South Africa who had several hits in Europe. "Substitute" was their biggest hit. It was later rewritten for Gloria Gaynor. However, due to the political and economical embargo against the South African Apartheid regime, Clout were also hit by these sanctions and couldn't always perform as planned. The band split up in 1981.

I dunno about the next one... Errrm. It's Dutch, and you all know it. Smiling

OK. One American song then... Shannon Hoon (1967-1995) was the short-lived front for the still existing 1990s band Blind Melon. Here is a live performance of their biggest hit.

I dunno if any of you have seen the European youth comedy (already sounds boring, but it isn't Eye-wink ) called "The Spanish Apartment" about a French ERASMUS student who moves to Barcelona as an exchange student and teams up with a bunch of other Europeans? The soundtrack is also outstanding. African music veteran Ali Farka Touré and old man Ry Cooder team up on this soulful tune. In the film it is used in a bluesy scene where the French student and his butch lesbian flatmate are both feeling sorry for themselves. Sticking out tongue

And finally one of the relatively few performing female rock artists in Europe: Gianna Nannini. This 1986 song is of course one of her major hits, but she has been a performing artist since 1979. Here she is in top shape - no playback here. Cool

Happy summer (or winter)... OK. One more then Sticking out tongue

I'll be back later. Maybe just before I fly to Madeira for a couple of weeks. Might post a Singlong or two while I'm down/out there... If I don't fall off a cliff. Dangerous terrain, ya know... Smiling
