We're in a suburb outside Stockholm (I guess). It's around 1980, and it's winter. Our main character is a 11-12 year old boy living in a small flat with his parents. One day, an older man and his apparent young daughter moves in next to him. The boy is lonely, bullied in school every day, and therefore he spend lots of time imagining things. Then one night at the playground he meets the new girl, who is about his own age. He quickly notices her odd nature, but being his only friend, he simply accepts her, just as well as she seems to like him as a friend. But of course, every day is still every day. The bullying at school continues, the adults live in their own world of drinking and arguing, and his vampire girlfriend is only around at night and needs to feed on fresh blood somehow - as vampires do. There's nothing romantic in that. But slowly, the boy begins to realise that he has to fight back any way he can.

The kids behave as real kids with a low self confidence do. They're not portrayed as charming, neither are they particularly clever or creative. Morale or personal limits isn't an issue. They simply do what (they feel) they have to do. The images and camera work is very convincing. The snow and the short hours of day adds wonderfully to the grey, everyday atmosphere of the young boy.

I don't think there's a genre label that fits this movie. It's a bit slow-paced, but above all it's a very original idea designed for no one in particular, and maybe that's what makes this unique, strange movie even more fascinating.

i heard of that film, is it scary? i dunno how Twilight won so many awards cause its really bad compared to the book

@ Tru Haze

"Let the Right One In" - now, that's an interesting piece!
The impossible (mix of genres social realism & vampire story) made possible in the simplest possible way (a story of necessity, loneliness and friendship/love). Saw it back in February. My best movie experience of the year.

This movie is what all those emo people really should pay attention to instead of - (nothing said, none offended!) - "Twilight" and the likes.

It's no wonder I'm so Disconnected

Among comedies it'll have to be "The Big Lebowski" (1997) and perhaps "Life of Brian" (1979).
If you add violence to comedy, I would also say "From Dusk Till Dawn" (1996) and "Death Proof" (2007) - Tarantino, just so wonderfully perverted.

My all time masterpieces are: "Blade Runner" (1982), "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly" (1966), "Funny Games" (1997), "Huozhe" ("To Live") (1994), "Die zweite Heimat" (1993) and "Riget" ("The Kingdom") (1995 & 1998).

Right now, I'm looking forward to watch "Antichrist" and "Das weisse Band" (Palme d'Or, Cannes 2009).
