Acne and Drugs

Acne maybe caused by several natural causes such as hormones or bacteria living on the skin; however there are some which are caused by certain medications we take. Here we look at the different medication which can bring about an acne breakout.

In many cases, any unusual illness or stress affecting the body can lead to acne eruption. Many times it is difficult to diagnose exactly what is triggering the condition or further aggravating it. It can be a result of your illness, the medications you are taking to treat the illness as well as the physical or emotional stress you are expending over the illness.

However, if you are on prescription medication for a specific illness which is later diagnosed as the cause for acne or for aggravating it, don’t stop taking it immediately. Consult your doctor and tell him/her about the problem you’re facing and ask if any other medication can be taken as a substitute which does not trigger acne. If you do get a different medication, you will see your acne clearing up shortly. However, if you really need that specific medication to deal with your condition, you must continue to take it while seeking out some other remedies for acne such as the Exposed acne treatment system.

Alternatively, you could learn to live with the condition and find different ways to effectively cover up your blemishes. Acne can be a very unpleasant condition to live with psychologically but it does not usually affect your physical health or harm it in anyway.

Contraceptives are sometimes recommended by doctors to help control the condition as they can affect the hormonal balance of the body in a positive way which is what is required since acne is typically associated with hormonal imbalances. Ideally choose pills which contain a higher amount of estrogen as those which are low on this component can actually make your acne situation worse. Most women, however, find their acne improving with the use of contraceptives.

Some drugs that you should try and avoid to prevent an acne breakout include anticonvulsants, corticosteroids, sobriety medications, immunosuppressant, thyroid preparations, systematic and anabolic steroids, etc. however, you should only give up on these medications if you’re absolutely sure that your present health issue can be cured without them.
